Anyone who knows me or is a regular reader of my blog will probably be aware that I'm a sucker for all things shiny and sparkly, whether that be the silver on my Tiffany, highlighter in my make up bag or glitter on my dress, I just can't get enough. A particular trend which emerged during New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion week which caught my magpie eye was sequins. It seems as though every fashion house has incorporated sequins into their Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Ready-To-Wear collection in some form or another. Libertine has brought to us sequin tracksuits, Roberto Cavalli has gone crazy for sequin smothered carves, Tommy Hilfiger's show presented the cutest sequin infested hot pants and Ashish opted for sequin everything, bringing the ultimate 70's disco vibe to the catwalk. Other designers to have jumped onto the sequin bandwagon for their Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Ready-To-Wear collections, include Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, MaxMara, House of Holland, Moschino, Erdem, Tory Burch, Julien Macdonald and many many more (the list is almost endless). Below I have selected and displayed some of my favourite Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Ready-To-Wear collections to feature the sequin trend, enjoy!

When looking back on the designs that graced the Fashion Week catwalks, it struck me that sequins have been repetitively used to create kitsch, fantasy and surrealistic imagery. The Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2016-17 RTW collection, 'A Fairytale Fantasy' features a range motifs including a princess kissing a frog, a ballerina clutching onto a hot air balloon and a drummer boy, each of these motifs embellished with sequins. I feel the dreamy use of the sequins within this collection really heightens and intensifies this idea of fantasy that has been carried throughout. This narrative of fantasy and fairytale is also prominent within Alexander McQueen's Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Ready-To-Wear collection. A couple of designs belonging to this collection feature a unicorn motif constructed solely of sequins. Unicorns are the ultimate fantasy figures and the intricate use of sequins amongst the unicorn motifs here amplifies this feeling of mystique and enchantment.
Annually, we as consumers are subject to sequins flooding our High Street stores during the Autumn/Winter season, particularly as we approach the party season. However judging by what Fashion Week across the globe has displayed over the past weeks, I feel that sequins will be particularly prominent within our High Street stores during the Autumn/Winter 2016-17 season.
